Octo-Four WIP
Ok, so yesterday I started work on my cargo ship(named the Octo-Four for now). I blocked out the basic shapes and worked on a basic mission for this class of cargo hauler. Today I roughed in some detail on the vectoring engines. Enough talk, write-up to be posted later. Now for the candy.

Re: Octo-Four WIP
You started this yesterday? I've been working on Freedom for a month, and it barely looks this complete.
I love the detail in the engines. Feel free to post some wireframes too.

Re: Octo-Four WIP
Ok, so right now I have a little time before school starts and I have a few days off work, so I am trying to crank it out as fast as possible. Here is another update on the engines. If you are wondering about the spike out the back, it is modeled after an aerospike rocket motor. This engine is a hybrid liquid fuel rocket/jet turbine engine. I still have to attach the turkey feathers, but they are giving be trouble. So that brings me to a question: what programs do you guys use?
Anyways, enjoy.
Anyways, enjoy.

I'm modeling Freedom in 3DS Max. You can get a year's student license for free with a student e-mail address. Lynn LeFey's models are also in .max format. I haven't used Blender in a few years, but I found it a bit difficult to get photo-realistic renderings out of. It's certainly doing a fine job of modeling for you though.

Wow, amazing detail on the surface of the engine, Wildfire.
I don't have a 3D program yet. Would love to get one and learn how to make these kinds of things on it or 3D people...

Re: Octo-Four WIP
I decided to rebuild the rear engine. So here is the first step. Tell me what you think.

I like the change very much. It add a certain heft to the engines that implies the long haul of the Rim.

Re: Octo-Four WIP
Ok, this marks the end of the modeling blitz. School is starting so this will be a weekend project, or on the rare days that my homework is light. Anyways, most of the modeling for the engine is done, I just have the business end to finish and then it is clean up and polishing after that. Thank you all for the comments, they have kept me going on this. So I welcome any comments or suggestions.
And so, with no further ado.
Oh, and I'll get wires up once I can get them to render properly.
